I will be the first to admit when I made my initial appointment with Dr. Adams I was the world’s worst skeptic. I was a parent, wife, sibling, nurse, and alcoholic, but I was also miserable and scared. I didn’t see any way out, I was in trouble professionally and personally, and I was drowning. My first meeting with him was unbelievable….at the very first session, he made me feel comfortable and safe. We worked on so many different things during my course of therapy. He helped me with my depression, addiction, low self-esteem, eating disorder, marital/partner, and parenting skills. What I loved the most is that all these things seemed so overwhelming, but we just chopped away at them a little at a time. We set goals together and it was really a team effort. Dr. Adams used different approaches until we found what worked best for me, and even that changed over time. I felt like he was tuned into me and adjusted therapy as we went along. It was ok to cry, to laugh, to get angry, to be scared, and to disagree….. it was OK if I did some backsliding as long as I got back in the game again! Life today is far from perfect, but I am happy, content, sober, and moving forward… that is a far cry from where I was when I started with Dr. Adams, and he gave me the tools I needed to keep on the right path.
